It is with deep sadness that the American Society of Safety Professionals community shares the loss of a dedicated safety professional and leader.

An active member, 2007-2008 Society President, and 2010 SPY Award Recipient, Michael Wayne Thompson made a lasting impact on the safety profession. His commitment to mentoring and developing the next generation of safety professionals helped shape countless careers across the industry.
In honor and remembrance, Region III recognizes Mikeโs legacy as one rooted in leadership, service, and mentorship. His influence will continue to be felt through the work and dedication of those he inspired.
He is survived by his loving family, his wife and children: Judy, Steven, Kathy, Joey, and Grace.
As we reflect on his contributions, we encourage taking a moment to give backโwhether through time, service, or supportโto local communities and chapters. Continuing to mentor and uplift others is one of the most meaningful ways to carry his legacy forward.
