ASSP Suspends Travel until after April 30: Southwest Chapter Postpones April PDC

ASSP has joined the effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and has postponed in-person classes and shifting to virtual committee meetings. They are recommending that Chapters follow these recommendations. For more information on planning and preparedness on COVID-19 see, “The Safety Professional’s Role in Planning for a Pandemic.”’

On March 13, ASSP canceled all travel for Society Members until after April 30, 2020 due to precautions taken to mitigate potential spread of the COVID-19. That means Society Staff members that were planning to attend the upcoming April 24 Region III Regional Operating Committee (ROC) meeting will no longer be allowed to travel and participate face-to-face.

Pursuant to these new travel restrictions, our Region III ROC meeting will be virtual this year and will continue to hold our meeting on April 24, 2020, since many have already set aside this date. A calendar invite will be sent to Chapter and Region leadership. If you are not sent an invite and would like to attend, please contact your Chapter or Region Leadership team.

In addition, the Southwest Chapter will be postponing their Professional Development Conference (PDC).  Please cancel any associated hotel reservations. Region III is working with the hotel to change the dates to 2021, so that we can hold the 2021 face-to-face Spring ROC at their facilities next year. Once we have those dates, we will notify our membership.

If you have questions, please contact our Region III RVP, Jim Rainwater, CSP, jim.rainwater@thehartford.com. If Jim is not available, contact, Stan Gregory, CSP, South Area Director, sgregory@insurica.com or Stephani Johnson, CSP, CHMM, North Area Director stjohn08@sbcglobal.net for more information.  See link below for a copy of Jim’s letter to the Region.
